22 selected for free cataract surgery at Tml camp |

Tamenglong, February 01: A free eye camp is being held here at Tamenglong District Hospital today organized by the Chief Medical Officer Tamenglong in collaboration with Manipur State Blindness Control Society and Imphal Eye Clinic.
The camp is sponsored by National Programme for Control of Blindness, NPCB.Out of the 250 patients who attended the eye camp today, as many as 22 patients have been selected for cataract eye surgery which will be conducted tomorrow.
People thronged the District Hospital to avail the facilities since 29 January, the date notified for the eye camp to commence. But the eye camp could be started on this date as the team of doctors from Imphal did not turn up on 29 January due to lack of Eye Operating Microscope. However the free eye camp commenced today by borrowing the Eye Operating Microscope from Chandel District Hospital, a reliable source disclosed to Hueiyen Lanpao news service today. Dr. Chaoba, eye specialist from Imphal Eye Clinic and Dr. Th. Robi eye specialist from Thoubal district performed three minor eye surgeries today. And the team has made all preparations to conduct cataract operation on 22 patients tomorrow.
During the free eye camp, the team will provide drug, IOL and spectacles to the patients, said Dr. Chaoba. It may be mentioned that in 2009 as many as 31 eye cataract surgery were performed as part of the same programme. It is also learnt that the second round camp in this year will be conducted in the next month.
In the meantime, the Chief Medical Officer Tamenglong also organized a workshop on Health Management Information System, HMIS at District Hospital Tamenglong for MOs in charge, Block Programme Manager Unit BPMU, PHC accountants and ANMs.
The first day was attended by 20 participants including two doctors, eight BPMUs and the rest from ANMs and PHC accountants from Nungba and Tamei block. The workshop will be continuing tomorrow for Tamenglong and Tousem Block. |
