GUWAHATI, JUN 30: Ethnic violence continues to rage in Assam as Security forces recovered the corpses of a Zeme woman and her two daughters from an interior village in the violence-torn North Cachar Hills while suspected militants gunned down four Hindi-speaking people.
The bodies of a woman and two of her daughters were recovered in an interior Zeme Naga village in NC Hills. All the victims were hacked to death. The latest killing in North Cachar Hills district has come even as a massive rally to restore peace in the strife torn Assam district was carried out in Dimapur, participated by both the Dimasa and Naga communities.
Talks between Dimasa and Naga frontal organizations including the Nagaland People’s Movement for Human Rights have also been taking place to bring an end to the violence, apparently perpetrated by Dimasa militant outfit DHD (J).
North Cachar Hills district of Assam has been experiencing ethnic violence in the last few months between the Dimasa and Zeme Naga communities and scores of lives have been claimed and a large number of houses/properties destroyed.
Meanwhile, four Hindi-speaking people were shot dead and two others injured by suspected militants of the anti-talks faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) in Sonitpur district late Monday night.
Police believe the killing could be in retaliation against stepped up operations by the security forces against NDFB militants. Security forces have gunned down over 30 NDFB militants in last one month in Assam. |
