IMPHAL: The Manipur University Tribal Students’ Union (MUTSU) has submitted a memorandum to the chief minister in connection with land acquisition for establishment of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU) regional campus in the state.
The memorandum drew immediate attention of the chief minister O Ibobi Singh to take up prompt action towards acquiring land as donated generously by the Kehulebek (Makhan) village for establishment of IGNTU campus.
The memorandum further said that MUTSU is appreciative of the government’s concern for the welfare of the tribal students community by inaugurating IGNTU regional campus at Makhan village on September 9 last year.
The IGNTU was to be constructed under the 100 days’ programme of the UPA government with a target of having academic session commence from 2009-2010 at least for M.Phil courses of the department of Political Science in its first phase.
Further, the memorandum said that state government has failed to complete land acquisition procedure even after five months of inauguration. This negligence on the part of state government resulted in the stagnation of development work as well as initiation of academic sessions as the university has a blueprint of introducing more new M.A and M.Sc. courses in different departments from the academic session of 2010-2011.
The MUTSU urged the chief minister for urgent consideration and prompt action so as to make possible introduction of courses of different departments from the academic session 2010-2011 considering the needs of the tribal students community. Source: Imphal Free Press |
