➰ Repaying Evil for Good
Just the fact that people praised David more because of his victory over Goliath hatred towards David sprang up in Saul caused by the jealous spirit in him. He tried in many ways to kill him but each time God protected David.
© God's Comfort for David
David and Jonathan the son of Saul were knit together as dear friends. David realised that that there was only a step between him and death. So he asked for the help of Jonathan.
David absented himself from the New Moon Feast for two days. Jonathan realised that his father was terribly angry with David. So Jonathan asked David to leave because his father was determined to kill him. They wept bitterly and parted.
▪ David at Nob
David met Abimelech their priest who gave some of the consecrated bread because he and his men had kept themselves holy. He also took Goliath's sword from the temple. David also escaped from Achish king of Gath.
® To Remember
Some times we do good, help and encourage others but in return we are treated in a way that hurts us. Likewise David only received hatred from Saul for whom he had won a great victory over the Philistines. We should not be sorrowful over the attitude of people but go forward in life confident as David that our Lord is with us and He will carry us through.

David inquired of the lord Shall I go and attack these Philistines 1Sam 23:2
David inquired of the lord again 1 Sam23:4
David lived in daily dependancec on the lord for guidance,He asked the lord directions before going to fight the Philistines in keilah. So David was a man after God's own heart. He listened to God.and obeyed Him.God helped him to deliver the people of keilah from oppression of the Philistines.
Saul learnt that David was in keilah.David inquired of the lord and God told him that people of keilah would betray him.So he listened to God and left keilah and saved himself.
God was with David and prevented Saul from finding him. Saul sought him (David)everyday but God did not give him into his hand 1Sam23:14 Saul greater authority and army cannot triumph over God's protection of David.
Lord help us to listen to Your directions and guidance and to do Your will in our lives.
1 Samuel 19:1-2 Is it ever right to disobey your father, as Jonathan did here? It is clearly a principle of Scripture that when a father instructs a son to break God's laws, the son should obey God rather than man. This principle assumes that the son is old enough to be accountable and to see through any deception. A son's role is to be respectful, helpful, and obedient to his father ( Ephesians 6:1-3) but not to follow commands or advice that violate God's Laws.

1 Samuel: 23: 16 "And Jonathan Saul's son arose and went to David in to the wood, and strengthened his hand in God ---"
⚡ David and Jonathan had a solid friendship, beginning with the good days of David's victory over Goliath. They shared their fears during the bad days of Saul's jealousy. Finally they suffered together during the ugly days of Saul's plan to kill David.
⚡ Although Jonathan was the son of the king and in line for the throne, he was willing to sacrifice his own prospect to promote David. Throughout the years of their relationship, Jonathan showed the hallmarks of a true friend and brother. When David was in the wilderness of Ziph, in a wood, Jonathan went to David and strengthened him in God. He said, "Fear not, for the hand of Saul, my father shall not find you and you shall be king over Israel and I shall be next unto you"
Good friends do not abandon us when external circumstances change. They stay with us through the good and the bad days. When you feel lost in the woods, you need a Jonathan to strengthen you. Solomon says." A friend loves at all times: and he becomes a brother in adversity" (Proverb:17:17 ) An old adage says, " In prosperity our friends know us, but in adversity we know our friends" A friend is the first person who comes in when the whole world has gone out"
Jesus said, " I have called you friends" Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (John: 15: 13, 15 )
⚡ Joseph Scriven was an Irish teacher and poet (1819- 1866) He found Jesus as his friend in the midst of the tragedies in his life. His first fiancee accidentally drowned, the night before they were to be married. He then migrated to Canada and became a teacher. While he was there he received a news from Ireland that his widowed mother is terribly ill. He could not go to her. So he wrote a hymn to comfort her and sent it to her, which became the famous song, "What a friend we have in Jesus".
⚡ Later he decided to marry a girl from Ontario, Canada. In the week before their wedding, his fiancee fell ill of pneumonia and died. His heart was broken. But he consoled himself singing the hymn " what a friend we have in Jesus" a number of time. In 1886, at the age of 66 he also drowned and went to his eternal abode.
⚡Dear Brother / Sister, Have you found a friend in Jesus who is everything to you? If not, now is the time for that. Joseph Scriven reminds us.
"Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged- Take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful? Who will all our sorrows share Jesus knows our every weakness Take it to the Lord in prayer"

God do not judge as man judges I Samuel 16
"man looks at the outward appearance but God look at the heart" (I Samuel 16:7)
God was grieved about King sauls disobedience. So he rejected Saul as a king and God wants to replace that position with someone else.
In order to select the King, God sent Samuel to the Bethlehem Samuel gathered the city leaders, Jesse (Davids father) and his sons as the Lord said to him.
⚖By seeing Eliab's (Jesse's elder son) physical appearance Samuel impressed very much and thought himself "this man is surely the one Lord has chosen". But the Lord rejected him and said to Samuel "pay no attention to how tall and handsome he is". In the same way Lord has rejected David's six brothers too.The reason behind this is "God do not judge as man judges".
People gives utmost preference to the external appearance and their position in the society. where as our Lord God gives preference to the heart (inner beauty). He loves pure hearted and obedient people.
David was the youngest son of Jesse and he was incharged to taking care of their family sheep. Perhaps David's father may thought that David was unfit the kings post as he was little guy and a short personality.
Though David's physical personality does not look like a king, he has a heart of a lion, a courageous spirit, honouring the anoited people and moreover an unending love for god. Aren't these qualities sufficient to be a king?
With his good qualities David's life turned from shepherd to the king of Israel.
⚖don't judge a person by the external standards which may fade out after sometime, judge them by true standards (with eternal standards) which are permanent.
Worldy people may reject you by seeing your external appearance, but remember that you are more precious in the site of Lord. He loves you and honour you (Isaiaha 43:4). Shift your focus from the worldly things to eternal values. It's easy to compare with others in the external appearance, but compare your external Beauty with inner beauty. Enrich with good qualities like kindness, obedience, living in purity, ethical values. Lead a victorious life like King David.
1 Samuel 18:1 "After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he loved him as himself."
1 Samuel 18 reveals the greatest friendship between David and Jonathan.
Saul’s son Jonathan stood in the second position of the kingdom as the royal prince. But in verse 5 we read, David rises rapidly to leadership in Saul's army. Also David, became the one who had been anointed as the next king and be able to serve in the king’s palace and presence.
In this situation, it is common for a man in Jonathan’s position to get jealousy toward David’s sudden rise.
But… Instead of feeling jealous, he loved him as his own soul; his soul was knitted to the soul of David.
*Even though they were of different ages, from different tribes and backgrounds, and with different past experiences, they became the closest and deepest friends, recorded in God’s Word.
Genuine friends are rare treasures. Friendships come in various degrees—from surface relationships to intimate fellowship.
Jonathan and David exemplified this type of closeness.
Do you have a person like this in your life—someone with whom to share your joys and sorrows, strengths and weaknesses, fears and pain❓
