These religious poems are of many kinds: there are hymns of praise and worship of God; prayers for help, protection and salvation, pleas for forgiveness; songs of thanksgiving for God's blessings: and petitions for the punishment of enemies. These prayers are both personal and national: some portray the most intimate feelings of one person, while others represent the needs and feelings of all the people of God.

The psalms were used by Jesus, quoted by the writers of the New Testament and became the treasured book of worship of the Christian Church from its beginning.

"Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers"

The Book of Psalms is referred to as "Songs of Praise". As heart is the source of the praise, they are also called the songs of the heart. This wonderful collection of songs meets all the needs of the humanity. You can find your emotional identity in some of the 150 Psalms. The great emphasis in the Psalms is "The Lord reigns"

⚡ Psalm 1 presents two ways of living. It contrasts the rootedness of the godly (V:1-3) with the instability of the ungodly.(V:4-6)

⚡ The first verse says that the man is blessed who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly. In other words, you are blessed when you fail to listen to the false propaganda of the world, it fears, doubts, false predictions, negative concepts and false teaching regarding God and His Laws

⚡ Walking with God means that where ever you go, realize that Divine love goes before you, making your way joyous and successful. You are responsible for what you choose.

V:3 says that the spiritual minded man is like a tree planted by the rivers of water. The tree sends its roots deep into the soil and extracts all that is necessary for its growth. Likewise, if your roots are in God and you can extract from His divine presence, inspiration, guidance, power, wisdom, health, and every thing you need to lead a joyful life.

⚡ The life of the person who rejects God is like a chaff, brief, futile with little eternal usefulness.

The Psalmist's conclusion:
Judgment and destruction await the ungodly, whereas God protects and preserve
the righteous. Which way of living you like to choose

Humanity Of The Messiah

2:7 - The Lord has said to Me, You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.

This refers to the Incarnation when the 2nd Person of the DIVINE TRINITY took a Human Body to redeem man [Phil 2:5-11].

It was when God had a Son through Mary [Lk 1:35]. This happened on a certain day -> TODAY [Heb 1:5-7], and therefore, we cannot say that God had a Son BEFORE this time.

As God, Jesus Christ had no father, mother, birth or death. He is eternal and equal to the Father and the Holy Spirit and always existed as God [Mic 5:2; Jn 1:1].

As Man and God’s Son He was not eternal. He had a beginning and was Begotten on a certain day known as Today, when the Virgin CONCEIVED of the Holy Spirit [Lk 1:35].

This proves that SONSHIP in connection with God had to refer to HUMANITY and not to DEITY.

2:12 - Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, the instructions from this Psalm are clear, everlasting life is only possible through Christ.

Jn 3:36 - He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.

Psalms 1: This Psalm gives us a foolproof way of being prosperous. I mean genuine prosperity that lasts throughout eternity and not just while living here on the earth.
The way to enjoy such prosperity is by meditating on God's law day and night, vs 2, such that it becomes a part and parcel of our way of thinking. This will enable us to avoid the advice given by the sinner, scoffer and wicked person when it contradicts God's word, vs 1. This will make us fruitful and prosperous, vs 3.
But those who do otherwise, will eventually perish, vs 6.

Psalm 2: Those who rebel against the Lord, (even if they are kings on the earth, for God is no respector of persons) will eventually experience God's wrath and displeasure, vs 5. The way to avoid this is by accepting His Son Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, vs 5,6,11, and by turning away from all disobedience and rebellion against His laws. Trusting in His Son is the way to true happiness and blessing, vs 12.

Psalm 3: When men rise up against us, as Absalom did against his father David, many write us off and suggest that this signifies that God Himself has abandoned us too vs 1,2. But that need not be the case, if we determine to set matters right by keeping a clear conscience before God and man, vs 4. It is only then that we can sleep peacefully and be sustained by the Lord vs 5, no matter what people say about us, vs 6 Our salvation will come from him alone, even as we call upon His Name in faith and with a clear conscience, vs 7, 8.

Calculated steps to Divine Blessing

Psalm 1:2 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the seat of mockers.
When God pronounced a person blessed, no one can curse him.

1. Be associated with God.
2. Walk in the counsel of the godly.
3. Stand with the righteous.
4. Seat and settled with the truth.
5. Trust in the Lord always.
6. Practice hearing God's voice.
7. Enduring temptation.
8. Taking delight in the law of the Lord.
9. Be free from sin. See Romans 4:8. "Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin"
10. Be planted like a tree by the side of the river.
11. Avoid wickedness by all means.
12. Accept the blessedness of the Lord.

We should position ourselves this month for the blessings of the Lord by our walking, standing and seating positions.

3 Simple Principles of Christian Walk

Sit, Stand and Walk Psalms 1:1

It sets the DO'S and DONT'S of a Christian Walk.
DO NOT WALK with the Ungodly:Do not follow the counsel of the ungodly men because they are Grumblers,Walking according to their own lusts,Flatter people to gain advantage and Mouth great swelling words. Jude 16 And the Ungodly shall perish vs 6.

DO NOT STAND with the sinners because they:

1.Do Not Obey the law 1JOHN3:4
2.Separate you from God .Isa 59:2
3.Do Unrighteous acts.1Cor 6:9,10.

DO NOT SIT with the scornful.
Scornful are the mockers who mock at the Word of God,at the people of God.
1.Scoffers set a city aflame Prov29:8
2.Make lies their refuge.Isa 28:14,15
3.Speak wickedly ,loftily and set their mouth against the heavens Ps 79:8,9

Let this be our daily exercise
With prayers,

Psalm 3:3 “But you, Lord, are a shield around me,
my glory, the One who lifts my head high.”

When David wrote these words he was in exile; driven out of his palace by his very own son, Absalom. He was in a great deal of trouble.

David proclaims many are against him.

But in verse 3, there came a ‘BUT’ moment for him.

But… ? He didn’t give up.
His faith informs him that God has not abandoned him.

David understands that the Lord is his real protection and shield.
He remains confident, and asks God for His divine protection.

When we are struck on every side, especially by those closest to us--our family,
………………  do we give up in despair, or
………………… do we confidently trust our God who will never fail us?

Do we have the same bold confidence of David❓

Where do we place our faith and our hope❓

True hope is not a feeling ,
But …..
……………… true hope is a determination to believe in God’s reality and power, even when we are crashing down.

Psalms 42:11 says,‼ "Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God."

Hope that Jesus loves us.
Hope that He is, right now, working out a solution for us..
“’For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (Jeremiah 29:11).
