Satan would like to use our earthly circumstances to strengthen the old fleshly Adamic nature

Disciplined As A Son

Know then in your heart that, as a man disciplines HIS SON, the LORD your God disciplines you. [Dt 8:5]

God disciplines us as we would our children.

The significance of this is probably lost today. In those days, soldiers & slaves were harshly disciplined so that they would know who their master is and carry out orders without argument. Israel had both observed & experienced it in Egypt.

But children are disciplined with love, and with the desire to shape their character, so that they know how to conduct themselves as adults and be successful & happy. When we do that as parents, we are merely echoing the heart of God our Father.

The Hebrew word for discipline = yâsar = Turning the head of a child or student in a particular direction by instruction [Source: Ancient Hebrew Lexicon]

SIN is Man’s desire to be the god of his own life, doing things his own way in his own wisdom, with his own strength for his own glory. All law-breaking comes out of this attitude of pride & rebellion.

In the wilderness, God humbled them. Dt 8:3 They began to learn that God, HE is God and there is none other beside Him. Not Man. Not anything else. Time & time again He showed them that leaning on their own wisdom & strength only led to death. (Eg: Nadab & Abihu – Lev 10; Defeat by Amalek – Num 14) God trains us, so that we learn to enthrone Him & de-throne self.

In the wilderness, God taught them to trust HIM for provision. Not self. Not Egypt/world. God taught them that when they followed His instructions, they received water & bread – symbolic of LIFE. Dt 8:3 Everything they needed for LIFE was met. Pushing to satisfy the Lusts of the Flesh only led to death. (Kibroth-Hattaavah – Num 11, Marah – Ex 15:22-Ex 16:21)

God also began training them on how to live peacefully with each other… Through the Law, He began training them in righteousness, compassion & justice, so that they would be a set apart (holy) Nation who shone forth HIS character to the nations. [Rf Is 43:10]

Satan would like to use our earthly circumstances to strengthen the old fleshly Adamic nature & lead us away from God into paths of unrighteousness. BUT

We are ‘Jesus sandwiches’. Jesus is IN & AROUND us. In HIM we are complete. [Col 1:27, Col 2:10]
He provides all that we need for life & godliness. [2 Pt 1:3-8, 1 Cr 1:30, 2 Tm 1:7, Tt 2:12]
Whatever hardship, temptation or craving, JESUS is WITH us, partnering & training us [ yâsar] through His Word & His Spirit to deny the flesh and resist satan. [Mt 11:28-29]
Old attitudes, unbelief & motivations die. The Life of Christ births new attitudes, thoughts, words & actions in us. As we listen to Him and obey Him, our faith is deepened, & we abide ever deeper in the love of Christ. [Gal 2:20, Rom 6:6-18]
Result: Hearts heal. Relationships are made new as we are transformed in Christ-likeness as the ‘Bride’ of Christ… and the earth is filled with the KNOWLEDGE of God’s glory as we shine with Christ’s beauty. [Gal 5:22-25]

Abba Father, open my ears Lord to be attentive to Your voice teaching me & training me in the way in which I should go. As I abide in Your love let me glow as a SON beam. For YOUR glory. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Simple thoughts for deeper meditation.

Deuteronomy 10:18,19

"He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing: Love the foreigner, therefore, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt."

Moses continues his exhortations to the people of Israel. God is the refuge and defense of the fatherless and the widows. God is the spokesman of those who are deprived of justice. He protects them and pleads for their cause for them. So it is the duty of any person who loves God, to show his special affection and love towards them.

Moses also takes up the topic of Israel's treatment of outsiders. He said,"God loves the aliens residing among you, give them food and clothing. And you are to love those who are aliens, for you, yourselves were aliens in Egypt." Israel served"the God of God and the Lord of Lords, the great God, mighty and awesome". (Vrs: 17) One powerful way they were to show their identification with God was by loving the aliens-those from outside their culture.

What might this small picture of God's character mean for us today? How can we show his love to the marginalized and needy around us? Apostle James reminds us "Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this, to visit orphans and widows in their afflictions, and to keep oneself unstained from the world" (James: 1:27) l once read in a book about a strange proverb commonly used in one of the poor countries in Africa.. "Chop time (Meal time) --- No friends". That means they do not expect any friends, relatives or neighbours at the time of food, as they have no food to share. But by God's Grace we have sufficient and more eatables to consume and even to waste. Are you ready to share a meal to anyone who actually needs it?

⚡The World Sunday School Organisation was originated in 1780 in Gloucester, England by Robert Raikes and Thomas Stock, for the poor and orphan children they found in the street of Gloucester.

⚡ William Booth, the founder of Salvation Army was an Evangelist in London. He began this movement in 1865 with an intention to offer practical help to the poor and destitutes, as well as to preach the Gospel to them. The first name of this movement was" Christian Mission" and later changed to Salvation Army. I have also read an incident highlighting his vision. He had been invited to preach in a meeting. But he fell ill on that day and could not be able to travel. So he sent a message through his friend, to be read on that occasion. It contained only one word " OTHERS"

Dear friends, let us pray, Heavenly Father, help us to be compassionate today by showing your love in some small way to somebody who longs for it- Amen.

Deuteronomy 10:12

What does the Lord ask of you
After reiterating the Law and other moral and spiritual teaching, Moses now asked an important question," O Israel, What does the Lord your God ask of you?".
This is a call:
To know who the Lord is and what He expects from us.
To be faithful in our devotion and commitment.

Moses gave five points as his answer to the above question.
1) Fear the Lord: With reverence and to develop a sense of His constant presence amongst us.
2) Walk in obedience to Him: Obeying God's ways in our daily proceedings.
3) Love Him: A genuine love manifests our closeness and obedience to Him.
4) Serve Him: Do the things in such a way that you are doing it for the Lord.
5) Observe the Lord's commands and decrees: It demands sincerity in learning and carefulness in obeying God's laws. God's commands are given for own good(v 13b).

These five points are repeated often in Deuteronomy because like the Israelites we tend to become careless in our faith journey. Carelessness is often the mother of sin. We need frequent reminders about the areas of our life where we are likely to stumble.
We need to reminds ourselves that the God of the Bible is --
~ The Master and Owner of everything in the universe (v 14)
~ The God of all gods and Lord of lords(v 17)
~ The God who deserves all our praises (v 21)
~ The God of wonders (v21)
~ The God who keeps his promises (v 22)

Peter writes,"Therefore, my brothers, Be all the more eager to make your election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 2Peter 1:10-11.

Humility is our strength

Deuteronomy 8: 2 And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.

Humility is the strength of a real Christian. God likes humble people.
The Lord is nigh unto the humble
He resisteth the proud and giveth grace unto the humble.
God cannot bear the pride.

Are you sufferings from any kind of sickness for a long time?
Are you in any tough situation for a long time?
Are your prayers not get answered for a long time?
Don't worry, be happy.
Don't think that God is not caring for you.
Because He loves you, He allowed you to undergo that problem in your life.

God will not incorporate the character of humility suddenly. He will lead us in a certain paths to learn the life of humility.
Characters cannot be obtained miraculously it requires experience, this experience is not the one which the world giveth. This is transformation through the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

God wants you to grow in the anointing and also grow the anointing upon your life. He wants you to age in the anointing that by the time you leave this earth you are not merely anointed but the anointing is the only thing that truly defines you.

God lead the children of Israel in the wilderness for 40 long years to teach them the life of humility. God will also lead us in the paths of suffering to teach us the life of humility.
Humility is the base of a true child of God.Through humility we can obtain other divine characters like obedience, patience, forgiveness, etc.
As Lord Jesus humbled Himself to the death of cross. We also should humble ourself in Him.
Humbling ourselves in Christ means learning to live a hidden life. Hidden in the cleft of the rock. Hidden in Christ.
The more we humble, the harder will be the rock for the enemy.
As St.Paul says, not I but Christ liveth in me.

Stay blessed
