And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments Deuteronomy 8: 2
Humility is the strength of a real Christian. God likes humble people.
The Lord is nigh unto the humble
He resisteth the proud and giveth grace unto the humble.
God cannot bear the pride.
Are you sufferings from any kind of sickness for a long time?
Are you in any tough situation for a long time?
Are your prayers not get answered for a long time?
Don't worry, be happy.
Don't think that God is not caring for you.
Because He loves you, He allowed you to undergo that problem in your life.
God will not incorporate the character of humility suddenly. He will lead us in a certain paths to learn the life of humility.
Characters cannot be obtained miraculously it requires experience, this experience is not the one which the world giveth. This is transformation through the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
God wants you to grow in the anointing and also grow the anointing upon your life. He wants you to age in the anointing that by the time you leave this earth you are not merely anointed but the anointing is the only thing that truly defines you.
God lead the children of Israel in the wilderness for 40 long years to teach them the life of humility. God will also lead us in the paths of suffering to teach us the life of humility.
Humility is the base of a true child of God.Through humility we can obtain other divine characters like obedience, patience, forgiveness, etc. As Lord Jesus humbled Himself to the death of cross. We also should humble ourself in Him.
Humbling ourselves in Christ means learning to live a hidden life. Hidden in the cleft of the rock. Hidden in Christ.
The more we humble, the harder will be the rock for the enemy.
As St.Paul says, not I but Christ liveth in me.
Guidelines for Right Living
Moses continues with expounding the rules for right living. It may sound repetitious sometimes, but any good teacher knows how important repetition is for imprinting something on the mind. Besides, in a chiefly oral tradition, it was absolutely necessary.
How well Moses knew the children of Israel, their hard heartedness and self - will.. and his heart must have been burdened. No doubt, it was a new generation but they had the genes of the old after all.
I was really wondering how on earth I used to miss the central message of books like Leviticus and Deutronomy and just cooly pass them by. My take was: O, all these outdated rules and regulations are not for us! All Dos and Donts and a punishing God. How could I have been so blind?
Instead, I now see an all loving, caring God, reaching down to his people, his treasured possession, telling them how to keep relationship with him fresh, alive and meaningful
Instead of feeling obliged or compelled to keep God's rules, I now understand that we observe the rules because we WANT to. We love God and want to do the right thing. When we sincerely love God we are on the same wavelength (hopefully) and only his norms would seem correct to us anyway. We obey out of love and not out of obligation or compulsion or an unhealthy fear. Or even worse, to serve our own selfish ends. (You know, I rub your back you rub mine) Sadly, for many religion is this... Doing things for personal gain.
Loving obedience and gratitude... May they become ingrained in us.
Who are we?
We are a soul having body rather than body having a soul since the soul is eternal and the body is temporal. This can be confirmed from 3 John 2 which says "You may prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers." This indicates the primacy of the soul over the body.
Dt. 9:29 - Moses says that the Israelites were the Lord's inheritance.
Dt.18:1& 2- Moses says that the Lord and the offerings made to him are the inheritance of the Priests and Levites.
From the above verses we can infer that we the believers who are considered as present days Priests (l Pet.2:9) are the Lord's inheritance and can also claim the Lord as our inheritance.
When the Lord is our inheritance he provides for our sustenance just like he did for the Levites.
If we are a soul having a body primarily then what does the Lord provide for the sustenance of our soul even as he provides bread for the body?
Dt.8:3 - Moses says that Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
Thus the above verse clarifies the fact that the Lord provides his words for our soul while he provides bread for our body.
Above view is confirmed by Is.55:2 & 3 - Listen to me, and eat what is good and your soul will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live
From the above verses we know that we need to nourish our soul with the word of God for it to be healthy just like we nourish our body with bread.
If soul has primacy over body what gets more importance in our day today living?
Bread or Word
The One Place for Worship
⌛ Here are the laws that you are to obey as long as you live in the land that the LORD,
*Do not worship the LORD your God in the way that these people worship their gods. Out of the territory of all your tribes the LORD will choose the one place where the people are to come into his presence and worship him. Do not use the blood for food; instead, pour it out on the ground like water. If you obey this command, the LORD will be pleased.
Do not worship the LORD your God in the way they worship their gods, for in the worship of their gods they do all the disgusting things that the LORD hates. They even sacrifice their children in the fires on their altars
⌛ Prophets or interpreters of dreams may promise a miracle or a wonder.
⚖ in order to lead you to worship and serve gods that you have not worshiped before. Even if what they promise comes true, do not pay any attention to them. The LORD your God is using them to test you, to see if you love the LORD with all your heart. Follow the LORD and honor him; obey him and keep his commands; worship him and be faithful to him.
Even your brother or your son or your daughter or the wife you love or your closest friend may secretly encourage you to worship other gods
⌛ *But do not let any of them persuade you;
⚖ At the end of every seventh year you are to cancel the debts of those who owe you money. This is how it is to be done. Each of you who has lent money to any Israelite is to cancel the debt; you must not try to collect the money; the LORD himself has declared the debt canceled.
⚖ *If in any of the towns in the land that the LORD your God is giving you there are Israelites in need, then do not be selfish and refuse to help them.
Instead, be generous and lend them as much as they need.
If any Israelites, male or female, sell themselves to you as slaves, you are to release them after they have served you for six years. When the seventh year comes, you must let them go free.
⚖ *When you set them free, do not send them away empty-handed.
Give to them generously from what the LORD has blessed you with---sheep, grain, and wine.
that is why I am now giving you this command.
⚖ *Appoint judges and other officials in every town that the LORD your God gives you. These men are to judge the people impartially.
They are not to be unjust or show partiality in their judgments;
*When you make an altar for the LORD your God, do not put beside it a wooden symbol of the goddess Asherah.
And do not set up any stone pillar for idol worship; the LORD hates them
"All glory and honour belongs to God alone"
What an awesome blessingsDeutronomy 7:12-16
Moses had been talking with God since 40 years. In their(Israelites) entire 40 years period of journey Moses obeyed commands of the Lord and pleased him.
Many times he emphasized the Israelites to follow the rules and commands of Lord.
They kept refusing to obey the commands of lord many times thereby receiving punishments from him.
Before departing from them, Moses speech about obedience:-
If they obey the commands faithfully,God will show them constant Love as he promised to their ancestors.
He will bless them with many children.
He will bless their fields, so that they will have corn, wine and olive oil.
He will bless them by giving lot of live stock and sheep.
The Lord will protect them from sickness and he will not bring on them any of the dreadful diseases, that they experienced in the Egypt.
He will destroy every nation, that the Lord their God place them in power.
No people in the world will be as rich and blessed as them.
The same God is with us today
He is showering his constant love on us. By following his commands and rules we can please him. So that he will protect us from evil. He will bless our families with children, he makes the Barren woman in the house as a joyful mother. ☂He will bless our job, work place, and in our fields. Remember that God cares about you and your work. He will protect us from sickness and blesses us with good health. He will destroy our enemies and he prepares a table before us in the presence of our enemies
✌No people in the world will be as richly blessed as Israelites and as us. (deuteronomy 7 :14)
*My dear believer what an awesome God he isand his showers of blessings. What else do we want more than this. Isn't it like all in one package?
My dear believer be obedient to the Lord's commands, rules and stay blessed.
Deut. 15:15 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and the Lord your God redeemed you.....
Israel were oppressed in Egypt, God brought them greatly enriched with the spoils of Egyptians.God gave them the freedom..It was a gift from God..
I remember and thank God for the gift of life given to my family and me after many accidents.God's tender care and kindness will always be remembered.
I remember how God lifted me up when I fell into the drainage nearly 10ft deep cut along the road.It was filled with rain water.God did not allow me to to washed away when I said Jesus, that powerful Name.
I remember how God saved me and my family and friends from a mission, from a bus accident,in the early hours of a day.The bus in which we were all travelling, hit a tree, uprooted it and fell to its side. But God kept us safe without a scratch after the accident when we cried to Him.
I remember His goodness to us and will share it with others and give Him all the glory.
Deuteronomy 14:2- You are a holy people to the LORD your God, and the LORD has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.
More than 525 times in the Bible you'll find the words "holy," or, "holiness,".
To be holy means to be “set apart.”
The people of Israel were a people separate unto the LORD.
They were chosen by God, to be His own special people.
We are also set apart for a specific purpose…..
………. to be obedient to God for what He has for you to do.
Everything about our lives is to be different—
Our character and
… Our lifestyle,
… the words we speak and
…. the things we do.
People should notice a difference.
Why did God set his favor on Israel above all the peoples of the earth? What was the basis of God’s calling them “my chosen”.
….we also are a special treasure to God.
“The Lord set his love on us and chose us...
We are His inheritance (Ephesians 1:18).
We were chosen according to the purpose of God.
He wants to make us holy for heaven.
Deuteronomy 12 to 16: Joyful thanks giving should be a lifestyle for the Redeemed
