And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days.

Digging out Judah's blessings

In the account of Jacob's Blessings to his sons ( 49:2-27) , only Judah and Joseph were given the longest blessings (v 8-12; 22-26) .
Judah's blessings includes three elements.

1) Position of Leadership(v 8-9)
Reuben , Simeon and Levi had forfeited their right of Leadership. So Jacob assigned the leadership to Judah.
~ His brothers will praise him .
~ His brothers will bow down before him .
~ No one would dare to provoke him .
~ He would lead them in war .
~ He is compared with lion a symbol of sovereignty , strength and courage.
✅ Judah's greatest descendant - Jesus Christ, is called The Lion of the tribe of Judah ( Rev 5:5)

2) Prosperity ( v 11-12 )
Judah's descendants would enjoy abundant harvests and a settled life. Wine would be more than water . Later the land allotted to the tribe of Judah was very fertile.

3) Provisions of Leaders ( v 10 )
Judah would provide the Israelites with leaders . Although Saul - a Benjamite was the first king but he was rejected by the Lord. After that king David took over , and to be more precise the tribe of Judah would reign until the coming of One greater than as men.
✒ ".. until he comes to whom it belongs.."( 10b ). To whom it was predicted?
The word of the Lord came to Ezekiel that "..The day of punishment of the wicked prince of Israel - Zedekiah has come ... and He gave order Take off the turban , remove the crown from his head... It will be not restored until he comes to whom it rightfully belongs ; to him I will give it. " ( 21: 25-27 ). Yahweh will give him - Messiah this crown and the authority to rule Israel and all the earth from a restored Jerusalem

In Judah's blessings all the elements are pointed to the coming of his greatest grand descendant - Jesus Christ ✝
He is the Prince of Peace , the Provider and the Redeemer.
> His name is to be praised and exalted on high
✒ "... every knee should bow ... and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. ." Phil 2:9-11.

Glory to God

Every believer has the ability and the potential to change the world ~ God has put it in everyone ~ Be zealous for God and for souls and you will lack nothing in life.

Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise,

Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies,

Your fathers children shall bow down before you.

Genesis 49:8

Blessings are eternal, the above scripture portion is the blessing of Jacob pronounced over his son Judah. Jesus is known as the Lion of Judah, He chose to come from the tribe of Judah, because of the blessing that Jacob pronounced over his son Judah. The first part of the verse tells that Judah will be praised by all his brothers, we all praise Jesus, the middle of the verse tells that your hand shall be upon the neck of your enemies, (if our hand is on the neck of the enemy he will surely die), Jesus hand is on the neck of Satan and it is already dead, Jesus conquered sin, sickness, poverty and death on the cross of Calvary, He openly and publicly defeated Satan on the cross and gave us victory. The last part of the verse tells that your fathers children shall bow down before you, we are the children of our Heavenly Father and we bow down before His Son Jesus.

You cannot attract and possess what you don't value and honor. In today's world many run after career, business, finances, property, even before the parents complete their earthly journey like the prodigal son many want the share of their family property, they run after the temporal and perishing things of this world, but they forget that if God and His blessing is on their side then everything else will have to simply follow.

Jacob knew God and the value and importance of the blessing so he ran only after God and the blessing, he knew that if he had God and the blessing on his side then every thing else has no other option but to simply follow him and everything followed him his wives, children and prosperity (Genesis 32:10, 36:7). Jacob purchased his elder brothers birthright, he cheated him of his final blessings and he also fought with the Angel of the Lord saying " I will not let you go till you bless me " and indeed he was blessed beyond measure and he passed on the blessings to his twelve children who became the twelve tribes of Israel.

Esau didn't know the value and importance of the blessing so he sold away his birthright for a morsel of food that is why his children are remembered no more, whereas the children of Jacob(twelve tribes of Israel) are remembered for eternity their names are written on the twelve gates of the new great city of the Holy Jerusalem (Revelation 21:12). The blessing is not for self, it is also meant for others it has to be passed on so that others will benefit from it and be a blessing to the kingdom of God.

In the new covenant we don't run after the blessings, because we are already blessed (past tense). We are not blessed because of our obedience, but because of Jesus obedience to the Father, we are not blessed because of what we have done we are blessed because of what Jesus had done for us on the cross of Calvary. He took away our sins and gave us eternal life (John 3:16-18), He redeemed us from the curse of the Law (Galatians 3:13-14), He gave us the gift of righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21), He took away our sickness and gave us healing (Isaiah 53:5), He became poor on the cross so that we could become rich (2 Corinthians 8:9), we are no longer slaves but sons an heir of God through Christ Jesus (Galatians 4:7, Ephesians 1:5), He left us with a rich inheritance (Ephesians 1:11).

God has already blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places through Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:3) all we have to do is believe in our heart and confess it with our mouth and draw it from the spiritual realm into the natural realm. Every blessing in the kingdom of God is possessed through faith, hope, prayer and patience.

Beloved rejoice You are already blessed.

I will make them and the places all around My hill a blessing, and I will cause showers to come in their season, there shall be showers of blessings.

Ezekiel 34:26.

God loves you

God works for the good of those who love Him

And now,do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourself for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you". Genesis.45:5.

Joseph was brought up with lots of love and care. His father Jacob loved him more than any other sons and used to make richly ornamental clothes for him.(Gen.37:3) Out of jealousy, his brothers plotted to kill him, (Gen.37:18) and later sold him as a slave.( Gen.37:28) He was only 17 years at that time.

Joseph reached Egypt as a slave boy. Joseph always loved and honoured his God in any and every situation. God raised him as the Governor of Egypt, next to Pharaoh.( Gen.42:6)

As there was great famine throughout the world, Joseph's brothers also came all the way from Canaan to buy grains from Joseph.

"They bowed down to him with their faces to the ground" ( Gen.42:6). They did it again in vv 26, 28." They threw themselves to the ground before him"( Gen.44:14). We are seeing how Joseph's dream as a teenager becoming true.

Joseph was 39 years old when he revealed himself to his brothers.( Gen.45:1-5) 22 years of separation from dear ones, loneliness and sufferings... His brothers sold him as a slave but today they are seeing Joseph as the mighty Governor of Egypt.

Joseph could have shown revenge, instead he is embracing and kissing each one of them. What a wonderful example of godly forgiveness and loving the enemies.

Joseph saw the hand of God in all what happened in his life. Now he will be able to bring all his dear ones from Canaan to Egypt. Otherwise they could have perished in this famine.

If his brothers didn't sell him as a slave, there was no chance for Joseph to reach Egypt and finally to become the Governor. He too would have continued as a shepherd in Canaan, just another shepherd. He too would have suffered in this great famine.

A small comparison between Joseph and his brother in few areas.

1. Place of stay. Joseph is staying in the Palace of Pharaoh for the last 9 years as the Governor of Egypt. His brothers who tried to kill him were staying in the deserts and grasslands with the sheep.

2. Area of influence. Joseph is known throughout Egypt and in the neighboring countries. His brothers are known by their sheep and fellow shepherds,

3. Their physical condition. His brothers and their families are starving due to lack of food. Joseph the Governor of Egypt, is the CEO of the Food Corporation of Egypt with God owns all over the country.

When his brothers are traveling for days with their donkeys to buy a bag of grain , Joseph is in charge of lakhs of tons of grain. Gen.41:49 says huge quantities of grain..beyond measure.

Are we able to see the hand of God in all what happened in our life?

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his promise" Romans. 8:28.

What is our attitude to those who ill-treated us?

Lord, help me to see your hand in all what happened in my life and help me to be a Joseph to all those who ill-treated me.

Unanswered Questions❓

Life is not the same for one and all. For some life is a cake walk. They hardly go through troubles. Whereas others tread along trials and difficulties. We don’t have the answer or the reason for the same.

There are few questions that arose on reading the life of Joseph. Here are they:

Wonder why God never revealed to Jacob that Joseph was alive?

Wonder why Joseph after becoming the Governor of Egypt didn’t go to Canaan to see his father?

Wonder why Joseph did not go to Canaan to bring his father to Egypt?

God spoke with Jacob and revealed to him several things but never told him that Joseph was alive. God knew the emotional pain Jacob was going through thinking that Joseph was dead. But God chose Not to Reveal that Joseph was alive in Egypt.

Joseph after coming to Egypt never ever returned to Canaan again. He went to receive his father only at Goshen. Joseph knew that Canaan was their Promised Land. Yet, he never went to see it. But gave orders for his bones to be carried to Canaan when God made them return to the Promised land.

One thing is sure. God has the answers for all questions. He knows why we need to go through a certain path. He will not and need not reveal everything. We need to just trust Him and let go of all that we do not understand.

God bless us to be channels of blessing.
