Holiness of God to the human race through Levites

God wanted His people to consecrate themselves and follow Him because He is a Holy God. In Leviticus chapter 20 many of the sins are mentioned with a specified death penalty.

Molech was the God of the Ammonites and they had a detestable practice of sacrificing children to this god.

People defiled themselves with sexual immorality and turned to mediums and spirits.

God had set them apart from other nations and He expected holiness in them because He is a Holy God.

⚰ Priests had to separate themselves from ceremonial cleanness by not attending a funeral. They could only attend a funeral in their own family. The high priest is prohibited from doing this.

A priest should not have any defect in his body. The laws were same for priests and people but the penalties were far more severe for priests who had great responsibilities.

The animals brought for sacrifice should be without any defect or blemish to be acceptable. The Lord who brought them out of Egypt is holy and expects His people to be holy.

Moses announced to the Israelites the appointed feasts of the Lord. Feasts of Weeks, Trumpets, Tabernacles, Sabbath, Pass Over and Day of Atonement. The different sacrifices had to be offered and several sacred assemblies were held.

If anyone curses his God or blasphemes the name of the Lord he should be stoned to death.

If anyone kills a human being he must be put to death. If animal is killed he must make restitution. If he causes injuries on someone the same should be done to him.

You shall be HOLY unto Me

Leviticus 20:26. You shall be holy unto me, for I the Lord am holy .

1 . What does it mean, holy unto me? This shows the inward holiness, not the outside holiness, Jesus told this in Mathew 23:26  You, blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. Today many Christians try to cleanse outside without cleansing inside and hence they are unable to keep their witness. So let us try to become holy inside first .

2 . What is the need for holiness?
1 . It is the will of God for us, to be holy. I Thessalonians 4 : 3.
2 . Holiness is the beauty of our temple (body). Psalm 93 : 5.
3 . We should worship the Lord, with holiness. Psalm 29 : 2
4 . Only holy people can enter Heaven.

3 . How can we become holy?
1 . By the truth or by the word of God. John 17:17.
2 . By the blood of Jesus. Hebrew 10:29.
3 .By the name of the Lord, and through the Holy Spirit. l Corinthians 6: 11.

4 . In what all areas we should become holy?
1 . In love. Ephesians 1: 4.
2 . In faith. Jude 20.
3 . In all manner of conversation (in our words, in our thoughts, in our works etc)
When we become holy like this, God's name will be magnified, glorified or hallowed through our life. May God help each one of us to grow in this inward holiness (HOLINESS UNTO ME). Amen. Hallelujah.

Leviticus 22:31-33

Keep my commands and follow them. I am the Lord.………. I am the Lord, who made you holy and who brought you out of Egypt to be your God. I am the Lord.

What a tenderness and compassion phrase!
…… I am the LORD, He says…

From chapter 11 onwards the phrase ‘I am the Lord’ is repeated 49 times.

Why is this said so many times?’
Because it shows the authority of our Lord.

He says, "I am the LORD your God" -- as distinct from any other gods, the gods of other people around them.

“I brought you out of bondage, out of slavery;”
“I set you free;”
“And I want to heal your life and
… bring you into a land of abundance and promise of excitement and blessing and fruitfulness.”

He is the same Lord today.

A thousand voices are shouting at us, telling us conflicting ideas and differing philosophies.

How can we know which is right, or which one to follow?

Well… God says to us today,
…….. "Look, I am the LORD your God, and I am telling you the truth. This is the way life is."

God himself must be our basic authority for life.
He is the God who sees our needs and promises to meet every last one of them.
He is always available to us.
He is the strength for us ..

Bring our weakness to a place of Humility and lets God demonstrate His power in us.

Open ourselves up to Him and He will meet our every need.

Degree of Blaspheme

LEVI  ICUS 24:10-16

The Ten Commandments says , " You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God , for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name". Exodus 20:7

✒ Ex 22:28 says , "Do not blaspheme God.."

✒ The same law applies to the native-born and to the alien living among youEx 12:49 ; Lev 24: 22.

Every Jews , I believe, are aware of this law from generation to generation.

What about Shelomith the daughter of Dibri the Danite (24:11)❓
What was wrong with her
》 She had married to an Egyptian ( v 10)
》 She failed to groom her son in the light of God's commandments.
》 Her son had blasphemed the Name of the Lord with a curse (v 11)

Blaspheming the name of the Lord is a very serious thing in OT (even today in some part of the world). Blaspheme includes Speaking against HimCursing Him as well as deliberately distorting the truth about Him.

Finally Shelomith's son was taken outside the camp and the entire community stoned him to death. And a new commandment was framed out - " Anyone who blaspheme the name of the Lord must be put to death.. whether an alien or native-born.." (v 15-16).

✒ For the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ . John 1:17
✒ Jesus said, "... all the sins of men will be forgiven... anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come." Mark 3:28; Matthew 12:32

Wake up call?
