Heart Check Levi✝icus 26

In v41 the Lord talks about the uncircumcised heart of Israelites.

What is a Circumcised heart?
To understand this let us look at some verses both in the OT and the NT.
Gen.17: 9-11- God says that Circumcision is the cutting off the foreskin of every male, a sign of covenant between God and Abraham and his descendants.
Gen 17:13- Circumcision is God's covenant in flesh
Det.10:16 - " Circumcize your hearts and therefore do not be stiff- necked", Moses told the Israelites.
Rom. 2: 28 -29 - Circumcision of the heart is not an outward and physical circumcision. It is an inward circumcision of the heart by the Spirit.
Col.2: 11 says circumcision of the heart is cutting off the sinful nature.

Thus from the above verses we infer that the circumcision of heart is a spiritual covenant between God and the spiritual Israelites requiring the cutting off the sinful nature.

Circumcision of the flesh is the sign of a male Israelite

Circumcision of the heart is the sign of all spiritual Israelites.

Rom.2:29 - Seeking praise from God instead of people is a sign of a person having a heart circumcised by the Spirit.

Where do we expect praise from?
From God or from people?

Obedience is the Cut Mark
✅ The book of Levi ✝ icus begins with the Lord speaking to Moses and ends with the same phrase ( 1:1 ; 27:1)
✅ The book of Levi ✝ icus ends as it began with voluntary gifts to God

✒ Follow my decrees and be careful to obey my laws( 25:18)
✅ Obedience is required because all God's laws are important. Three laws in particular under which the Israelites fails to obey :
I ) Idol worship ( 26:1; 17:5-9 ; 19:4, 20:1-3)
II) Keeping the Sabbath holy( 26:2; 19:3,30; 23:1-3)
III) Reverence for God's Sanctuary

✒ If you... obey my commands , I will send you rain... I will grant peace.. I will look on you with favour and make you fruitful.. (26:3-4,6,9)
✅ Obedience is the key to blessings. Three kinds of blessings
I) Abundant provisions of food (26:3-5)
II) Peace and Security from their enemies (26:6-8)
III) His continuous favour and presence (26:9-13)

✅ Vows were voluntary and were not discouraged but they were discouraged of making hasty or emotional vows in God's name. Three items are dedicated to God while making a vow :
I) People (27:1-2; 1Sam 1:10-11)
II) Possession (animals) 27:9-13
III) Properties(land/house) . 27:14-25

✅ Devoting something was far more serious than dedicating it to sacred use . Three things could not be dedicated to God, because it already belongs to God.
I) First born of animal (27:26)
II) People or Things (27:28-29)
III) Tithes(27:30-32)

The principle behind these laws is that the Lord is to be honored and given the respect He deserves.
His people must obey his commands ..

Watch Out ?
To obey is better than sacrifice.

Glory to God
